Dear Customer,
2005 promises to be another year of growth for
mobile messaging. In this issue, we want to tell you
about the new features in the v5.51a patch release
of the Now SMS/MMS Gateway, and about the new
Now IMP Server.
The Now IMP Server is an
implementation of the Open Mobile Alliance (Wireless
Village) Instant Messaging and Presence Services
(IMPS) specification. Or, to explain it a bit more
clearly, the Now IMP Server is a back-end server to

Now Instant Messaging and Presence Server (IMPS)

The Now IMP Server is an implementation of the
Open Mobile Alliance (Wireless Village) Instant
Messaging and Presence Services (IMPS)
specification. The current release of Now IMP
supports the Client Server Protocol (CSP) version
1.1, with support for both text and binary (WBXML)
protocol variants.
The Now IMP Server supports the Presence, Instant
Messaging (IM) and Group features of IMPS, in
addition to the Fundamental and Common features of
that specification.
Basically, the Now IMP Server is a back-end server
to support the "Chat" and "My Friends" capabilities
that are being introduced on some of the latest
mobile phones.
This product is currently in beta. A time limited
version, as well as additional documentation, is
available for download from the link below.

NowSMS v5.51a Update Patch

A patch, version 5.51a, is currently available for
NowSMS. This update corrects several problems
that have been reported, and adds some minor new
functionality.
Of particular interest to customers who are using
NowSMS as their MMSC, a new option has been
added which allows MMS messages are converted to
an SMS message that includes a link to a web page
where the recipient can go to retrieve the content of
the MMS message. For example, when sending an
MMS message to a recipient that does not have an
MMS compatible phone, or to an international
recipient to which there is no available MMS
interconnection, the recipient can instead receive an
SMS message with a WAP and/or web link to the
message content.
For more information on the fixes and enhancements
in v5.51a, please follow the link below.

Bryce nears 4000th post on Discussion Board

Our Bryce Norwood has been a bit busy lately
planning new product releases and product features,
so his activity on the NowSMS discussion board has
been a bit erratic of late.
However, this is a fine time to note that he is nearing
post 4000 on the NowSMS discussion board. Help
Bryce climb past the 4000 mark with some good
questions and dialog.

NowSMS Updates beyond v5.51a

Occasionally there are specific fixes or enhancements
that are made to the NowSMS product which deal
with very specialised issues.
In addition to the v5.51a patch referenced earlier in
this newsletter, we are starting to post a summary of
issues that are addressed in interim updates to the
NowSMS product.
We will reguarly be posting information on the latest
enhancements and fixes on the "What's New" section
of the NowSMS web site.
Often times reading about these enhancements and
fixes can be quite educational, as you can find
pointers to NowSMS features and capabilities of
which you might not have been aware.
