SMS/MMS Gateway Version History
v4.10 – Release
mid January 2003
v4.10 is a maintenance
release for the v4.x series of the Now SMS/MMS
Gateway product.
The v4.10 release offers
numerous improvements for connecting to UCP/EMI
SMSCs, and many improvements to the 2-way SMS
interface.
v4.0 – Released late
November 2002
v4.0 is a significant new
release that builds upon the MMS capabilities
introduced in the v3.x releases of the gateway.
Significant new features in this release
- Dynamic
MMS content adaptation and conversion
in the MMSC. The MMSC uses WAP/MMS “User
Agent Profile” capabilities to determine
the MIME formats that a device supports, as
well as the maximum size of images supported
by the device. Where required, the MMSC converts
between common image formats (including, but
not limited to GIF, JPG, PNG, BMP and WBMP)
to deliver an image supported by the device.
For images larger than the maximum size supported
by the device, the MMSC will automatically
scale the image to fit the device, speeding
up download times. For audio formats, conversion
between WAV and AMR is provided in the e-mail
gateway interface. MIME types not supported
by the receiving device, which cannot be converted,
will be removed prior to delivery to the receiving
device to prevent compatibility issues and
unnecessary download delays.
- Unicode
(UTF-8) support for both SMS and MMS messages,
enabling support for multilingual and double
byte character environments.
- SMPP
Server module added to simplify
the process of linking multiple gateways and
applications. Now other gateways and applications
can link into the Now SMS/MMS Gateway via
an SMPP interface to both send and receive
messages.
- SMTP
Authentication added to the
MMSC e-mail gateway. This allows a user account
to login via SMTP with an e-mail client to
submit bulk
delivery of SMS or MMS messages.
- Allow the SMS
Sender to be defined when
submitting a message. This value can be set
when transmitting messages to an SMSC via
SMPP, HTTP, or UCP/EMI. When transmitting
via GSM modems, the sender value can be used
to specify which GSM modem a particular message
should be sent via. This enables the deployment
of context-aware applications that can track
interactions and SMS replies from a particular
user by varying the sending address of messages
sent to the user.
- Compatibility
issues – We addressed
several issues here. “Receive SMS Message”
support is now working properly when the SonyEricsson
T68i was used as a GSM modem, and a fix is
included for MMS notifications that were being
ignored by the Nokia 3510.
- User
Accounting is improved with
the ability to define message sending limits
on both SMS and MMSC user accounts, and the
ability to track the number of messages sent
per day by user accounts.
- Integration with the
Windows Event Log
to integrate error reporting with other applications.
