Dear we are dealing with an operator that changed the policy and obliged us to send an alphanumeric in the phone number ex: phonenumber=dl:112&sender=1234&binary=0&dcs=00&SMSCRoute=MTNEW&text=009 in the smsout log we found out that the phonenumber was changed to 112 and the "dl:" was removed . kindly advice how can we send an alphanumeric phone number BR | |||

Hi, I'm sorry, but alphanumeric recipients (destination) are not supported. Alphanumeric senders (source) are supported. What your operator is suggesting is very unusual. I've never encountered a situation that required this. We can investigate adding support for this in a future release, but currently alphanumeric recipients are not supported. -- Des NowSMS Support | |||

Hi Hassan, I agree that the SMPP specification does not prohibit this. What I am saying is that it is VERY unusual. NowSMS would allow this if an SMPP client submitted the message. However, the NowSMS HTTP interface, which you are using to submit the message, strips non-numeric characters. I have submitted a request to our engineering department to add a setting which would allow the HTTP interface to accept non-numeric characters for the destination address. It will most likely be at least one week before any changes can be made to accommodate this. -- Des NowSMS Support | |||

Apologies for never posting a follow-up on this thread, but we did add support for alpha recipients in NowSMS. Non-numeric SMPP (and MM7 for MMS) recipients are only supported if a special configuration setting is enabled. Alphanumeric recipients are only supported if AllowAlphaRecip=Yes is added to the [SMSGW] section of SMSGW.INI, and only in versions 2010.06.30 and later.
