Hi,
I have an unlocked Orange Nokia 6170 with a Vodafone sim card. trying to access GPRS and it keeps telling me I have not subsribed. Vodafone say contract is fine, obtain settings from Nokia website. Did that, phone won't save them says Not enough memory even though configuration settings on handset say Empty. Any ideas? |

I CHARGED A GPRS CARD WORTH RS 250. ON 20TH OF JAN 06. TILL THIS TIME IT HAS NOT ACTIVATED. THE OFFICERS AND COSTEMER SERVICE ARE TELLING ME THAT IT WILL BE ACTIVATED WITH IN 24 HS. i am able to surf internet on my nokia 6600 using airtel net on phone service ....cost is 100 rs per month in chennai.........i am using opera....go to settings and then to connection and then to access points ....edit the airtel net on phone access point and go to options ....advanced ....there u put proxy server address as 100.1.200.99 and then port number as 8080.
ALSO u need to go to settings---connection ----GPRS ----there access point should be specified as airtelwap.com.
Till 10 days back i was able to browse internet on my PC too...but that is not possible now...i think...they changed something....
AHH...one more thing if your browser allows you define the proxy settings ...update accordingly....
see using this i am able to browse all sites ( restricted by browser ability ) ..thank you. |

Hmm... in order to have gprs in airtel, do the following:
Tools->Settings->Connection->Access Point.
Edit the airtel_mms. Change the homepage to http://google.co.in. Gateway ip as 0.0.0.0. In advanced settings, give proxy address as 100.1.200.99 and port address as 8080.
In your phone's web browser, use default as the airtel_mms access point. You should now be able to access all sites.
In case you want to access sites on pc, well go to Tools->Settings->Connection->GPRS.
Here change access point name to "airtelmms.com" without the quotes.It is case sensitive.
now try to connect to the pc. It will connect and you can browse all sites on pc too. But i think it sometimes gives some download problems. But hey, only sometimes. Its free.... Enjoy..... |

Oh yes, i forgot. On the pc, go to Internet Explorer->Tools->Internet Options>Connections. Here on your connection type, click settings.
Enter the proxy ip as 100.1.200.99 and port as 8080. |

I am Amit.. I am visiting India (Bangalore) for three weeks for an academic trip.. I wanted to be connected to the Internet, so I got an airtel sim card, from other's recommendations..
However, ever since I got the connection, I am unable to connect.. I called Airtel cust service and they were not very helpful. First they tried to convince me that there was somethign wrong with my computer. then they tried to convince me that my phone is defective (nokia 3650).. However I tried from a different phone and computer and still no luck..
Airtel cust service is the worst.. they dont know anything about computers and whatever you ask them, they have the same scripted reply "send MO to 3128, save the settings you receive etc etc", which is of course all useless.. I filed a complaint and that too has been lost somewhere.. it is already 2 weeks so I can't be bothered following this up.. I am here only for 1 week more and dont have time to talk to airtel employees anymore.
In a nutshell. DO NOT GET AIRTEL IF YOU WANT GPRS.. CHANCES ARE IT WON'T WORK and IF IT DOESN'T, YOU ARE TOTALLY ON YOUR OWN> AIRTEL DOES NOT CARE ABOUT ITS CUSTOMERS> AND ITS CUSTOMER SERVICE IS THE WORST.

Hello,
First you have need to contact service provider for GPRS settings.
Please keep in mind that wap and www sites are different.If you have wap service enabled by your service provider, you are not able to use your phone to surf the whole www sites.
If you have GPRS service with www sites browsing service.You have need a setting from your service provider.Call your service provider for this.

Conntecting to the internet in Computer.
----
If you wish to use internet via bluetooth you have need a bluetooth dongle.(most laptops have inbuild).
Install bluetooth software and driver.
Then press connect button from your bluetooth softwares.

I HAVE ACTIVATED NOP SERVICE FOR THIS NUMBER.
I AM USING "FLY 2080" HANDSET FOR NET SURFING.
