Hello,
I was wondering if it's possible to connect MetroPCS with NowSMS? MetroPCS uses CDMA technology instead of GSM, so no simcard.
Has anyone tried doing this?

Thank You

Hi Sonny,

Unfortunately, there is no standard API for sending/receiving SMS via a modem in the CDMA environment.

We have seen one modem manufacturer, Multitech, which provides limited support for the GSM API in a CDMA environment. This modem does work with NowSMS, with the limitation that it can only send/receive text messages. No binary message types are supported. (It may be possible to send MMS with some additional configuration, but not possible to receive MMS.)

Unfortunately, without SIM cards, it can be difficult to get a device provisioned on a CDMA network without the device being "approved" by the operator in question.

Hello Des,
I do not need MMS, Incoming SMS functions. All I need is just to send out SMS. Is that possible?

Hi Sonny,

If you can find a CDMA modem (like the one from Multitech) that supports a limited GSM modem API ... and can be provisioned on the MetroPCS network.

This modem will support sending/receiving text SMS messages.

The problem is that without SIM cards, it can be difficult to get a device provisioned on a CDMA network without the device being "approved" by the operator in question.

Multitech's information page on their modem is here:

http://www.multitech.com/en_US/PRODUCTS/Families/MultiModemCDMA/

They have separate versions for Sprint, Verizon Wireless and Bell Mobility Canada. I don't see MetroPCS listed.

This "approved devices" is a problem with CDMA. You can't just take any CDMA device and activate it on the network.

So I suspect the answer is no, unless you can find a way to get a device like I mentioned activated on that operator network.
