(I did post the message below but now can't find it, so apologies if this is posted twice) We currently use Wap3GX and we had some issues with a customer where is would have been handy to be able to query the service and produce internal "alarms" when certain thresholds on the licence have been reached. Is there a way of checking the licence usage on the service i.e. snmp/remote API? Thanks Stephen Hewitt Product Manager Opal Telecom |

Hi Stephen, Currently there is not. We are looking into some of these areas for an update later this summer. But unfortunately, I don't have anything to suggest at present. - Kent Williams Now Wireless Support |

Kent, Thanks for that. I am slightly confused by the licence usage: We have call analysis that shows simultaneous calls to be about 1/3 of the number of licence usage. How does licence usage vary within a single call? It is one licence per GET request (with a timeout on the licence?) Just need to sort it all out in my own head before committing more licence purchases... Do you have any docs / FAQ's that address these kinds of questions? Regards Steve |

Steve, If the browser terminates the call with a WAP disconnect, then the gateway terminates the session automatically (except in WTLS mode due to some compatibility issues with some phones). If the browser doesn't do a WAP disconnect, then the default is a timeout after 10 minutes. You can adjust the timeout by manually editing WAPGW.INI, and setting SessionTimeout=## under the [WAPGW] header, where ## is the number of minutes for an automatic timeout. I don't recommend setting that number too low as that could cause errors on some phones. 5 is a reasonable minimum. - Kent |

Are there any updates to the SNMP facility to send a trap on reaching license threshold. Additionally I did not find a "SessionTimeout=##" parameter in the wapgw.ini file. Should I go ahead and add one? Thanks. |

Being able to monitor license usage would be of great help. It would help in determining license expansion needs. Any ideas on how this can be done? |
