How do I enable someone to respond to an SMS message that will go back to our server for processing, like a trivia contest? Does a carrier assign a number that will redirect response SMS back to our server?

Also, how do I send a WAP Push to a phone in North America? We have done this successfully using openwave emulators, but cannot configure system to send to our phones. Does the carrier have to set something up?

1: A carrier might assign a phone number in conjunction with an account on their SMSC. Or for low/medium volume traffic, you might receive the messages over a GSM modem (can be a GSM phone connected to the serial port of a computer).

2: In the GSM environment, WAP push messages are sent over SMS. So that's the way it works with T-Mobile in the US (and with GSM carriers in the rest of the world) ... and with the GSM phones on ATTWS and Cingular. In the CDMA environments, as well as Nextel's iDEN, its a different ballgame, and you pretty much have to go through the carrier.
