Hi,
when sending an SMS to a distribution list,is there any way to "batch" recipient SMSC submissions together, to take advantage of protocols which support multiple recipients, such as SMPP?

No, we do have any support for that.

In practice, different providers put different limits on how many recipients can be specified per SMPP submit_multi request, so this gets difficult to manage.

Even submitting the messages to the SMSC one recipient at a time, we can generally do this faster than the SMSC can actually send the message out to the actual recipient. So there's not much performance to be gained, since the actual SMSC has to send messages out one at a time anyway.
