Sorry, I don't have any experience with Benefon phones.
As I type this message, Benefon's web site appears to be off-line. I see several sites that make reference to Benefon GSM modems. I suspect this means that they support ETSI GSM 07.05 for sending/receiving SMS.
Give it a try, and if something doesn't work, we can troubleshoot to determine whether the problem lies.
